SHABBY'S FIRST RAK......

Wow!! We are so overwhelmed with the response over the past few days. It has taken us by surprise (very big smile) !!

A big big thanks to those who have already posted about us on their blogs and forums it really has helped to spread the word.

Would you like to get your hands on this Shabby rak Mandy has put together?
I so love that lace it is scrummy and there is about 13 inches of it. Pity I can't win it lol!

What we would like you to do is to tell us the first thing the word Shabby brings to your mind.

To me it is anything old, vintage with lots of pastel colours and lace.
Please leave your comment only in this post, just the once and by the 24th. When we post our first challenge on the 20th, we will pick a winner for the rak then.

Keep popping in as between now and the 25th we might have some more little surprises for you.

When I hear the word "shabby" I think aged and worn with a touch of elegance.

On the contrary to what you might think, I don't think of scrapbooking at all when I think of shabby - I think of furniture, the kind of "washed" furniture I dream about owning one day... *sigh*

It makes me think of my Nanna's cupboards, of rose & lavender talcum powder containers with vintage pictures all over them. It makes me think of her old dresses, the photos of her wearing these old dresses the first time around and of a completely different time & place.

It makes me think of my keen op shopping expeditions which i rarely have time for now, but used to go on once a week in my uni student days! It makes me think of trawling through vintage fabrics, laces, polka dot dresses, white cane furniture and faded music books for instruments that i cannot play!

It makes me think of old as in white furniture, pastel colours, lattice and roses.

When i think of shabby i think of a chique mess from luxury materials like lace, fine colours, sensitive flowers etc. But put together in a messy arty way. I love shabby..it's like my mind!

Be blessed!

It reminds of my vintage dress form which I have.Covered in her original calico material and slightly broken wooden neck. Dressed in a gorgeous pink vintage lace bridesmaid dress, with her vintage gloves and lots of pearls draped over her shoulders and shabby brooches!!

Well, if I'm about to go shabby I best be Chiccy and leave a comment - WTG girls - so excited and the RAK has some very yummy items in it. I'm sure the boys wouldn't mind a layout or two of them a little Shabby around the edges.

For me, shabby is the "rough around the edges" desk that is in my back room. It's the frayed at the seams cushion, with faded florals, that sits on the chipped rocking chair. It's vintage, and lace, and totally lovely!

To me shabby means beautifully worn and broken in -- like a pair of comfortable old shoes.

I have to admit, I'm not a Shabby girl, but I can't wait to see what you ladies come up with. Maybe it will get me beyond thinking of Shabby as just being messy (which is what comes to mind for me). I'll be watching with baited breath.

Love your blog! Shabby brings to mind soft colors, whitewashed furniture with just the right wear marks on it, gently loved and used items like lightly tattered lace and cotton blouses washed so much that they are soft as a baby's blanket.

ncwdust said...

My first though at the word shabby is aged...aged to perfection. It brings to mind those treasures that are gently or even more than gently used through the years...nostalgia...those marks that let you say...little Billy ran into this dresser with his walker and caused that scar... or my grandma used to put her makeup on at this vanity and my mom finally let me have it.....

Melita said...

Shabby makes me think of lace and silk, birds and flowers, old paper and photos, scrummy colours such as pink and green, blue and brown. All those little bits and pieces that are truly unique and can really make a project shine.

Shabby.... old movies with "mob" in a costume wearing hats - cocktailbars with ladies in (almost) onderwear, lots of lace... pin up girls - marilyn monroe types.... distress ink on an old wedding pic of my grandparents.... that's what comes in mind first!

Shabby...elegance. laces, vintage. A softer time....my grandmother's house...which of course brings such wonderful memories. I can remember her hat pins placed in the most beautiful pin cushion with several perfume bottles that I so wish I had today!!!! I think this is what attracts me the the shabby look...softness from days gone by!!!! :)

The VERY first thought that comes to mind when I hear the word shabby is "Home". I picture items and articles that have withstood time, gathering memories and special secrets of all those with whom the special treasures have come in contact. Shabby evokes a feeling of warmth and comfort...a desire to snuggle in and be embraced by the past...just like HOME!
