LET'S GET SHABBY CHALLENGE #2

(also September 2010 DT Call - 2nd part criteria)

CHALLENGE TWO

is all about

GINGHAM and FLORALS

(gingham is a colour and white checked pattern)

Its all about marrying the gingham and floral together

to create that fabulous country cottage chic atmosphere!

Use papers, fabrics for example, make LO's, off-the-page,

altered items or cards, atc's.......

whatever makes your heart happy!

What we want to see is gingham and floral print in paper or fabric mixed together (not just gingham and just actual flowers) Of course add flowers....if you wish....

but we want to see gingam and floral paper or fabric married together!

Its a special country shabby look!

****EDITED 11 SEPT 2010****

THe gingham and floral print 'look' has a definite place in the shabbychic world especially in soft furnishings. We were trying to see who can recreate this 'style' / 'look' within a scrapbooking creation

When we were choosing which challenge to use as the second part of the dt call, we decided to go with the ‘Gingham and Floral’ as we felt that it had been one of our most challenging and it turns out that this may still be true!.

We’ve had a few emails about clarification – and it could be a language difference as it happened just like this back when we ran this challenge..

The problem seems to lie with the word ‘floral’.

Yes, you can use flower embellishments on your page and is not part of the criteria

The focus needs to be on floral print patterns as in patterned papers or fabrics combined with gingham..

This needs to be evident and a feature in your dt creation for this part of the call.

If you have already submitted and want to submit again- please do! We would only need to receive your ‘Floral and Gingham’ creation with the work ‘Re-submit’ in the subject line if you feel the need.

Understanding criteria is very important at 'Let's Get Shabby' and we want to really see how your individual style, creativeness, and flair shines through it!!!(very big smile!!)

ANNOUNCING OUR CHALLENGE TWO GUEST DESIGNER AND PRIZE SPONSOR!

.

KRIS
FROM

I have always been a bowerbird. When I was little I would always come home from my grandmothers house with a stash of buttons and ribbons. I can still vividly remember sorting through the button box for the sparkly ones and not much has changed in 30 years. I love to decorate whether it be a handmade card, my home or a cake. I love using vintage ephemera and haberdashery in my papercrafting projects and old photographs fascinate me. I love a good story, old fashioned frocks, roadtripping and glitter, lots and lots of glitter.

Kris has put together a most stunning prize for 'Lets Get Shabby'!

Shabby rak winner is

Maria said...
It makes me think of my Nanna's cupboards, of rose & lavender talcum powder containers with vintage pictures all over them. It makes me think of her old dresses, the photos of her wearing these old dresses the first time around and of a completely different time & place. It makes me think of my keen op shopping expeditions which i rarely have time for now, but used to go on once a week in my uni student days! It makes me think of trawling through vintage fabrics, laces, polka dot dresses, white cane furniture and faded music books for instruments that i cannot play!

Can you please contact Mandy with your address so she can send out your rak.

Introducing Shabby Chic Hilde

I come from the Netherlands and live in a town called Leidschendam which is near the sea. I started scrapping 3 years ago. I've always liked taking photos and I collecting beautiful gift wrapping papers and beautiful pictures to stick into my diary. So I guess that paperart has always inspired me. I feel really happy when I am scrapping, I love to create something beautiful. I must admit it makes me proud as well....lol.
When I think of shabby chic I think of romance, lace, flowers, victorian style, beautiful embellishments..... I love the influence of Jane Austen and the Brontë sisters. Also vintage findings are always a great catch to add to your layout or altered item. I just love this style, it's a part of me I guess....

You can see more of her stunning work on her blog Scrap world.
Welcome to the Shabby Chic team Hilde.

Introducing Shabby Chic Chimene

I'm Chimene Vink. Married with Dirk. Mother of Jordi (15 years) and Annemijn ( 3 years).
We live in a beautiful small Village in the Netherlands.
I started scrapbooking in the summer of 2007 but it looks like I've scrapped all my life. I think I've made something like 300 layouts and a lot of mini albums. My favorite size is 12 x 12.
My mother has a lot of old family photos and when I started with these photos I discovered that Iwas in love with the vintage/ Shabby chic style.
Before my scrapping life I painted old furniture and decorated children rooms.
My other passion is photograpy. My kids are my favorite subject. But I also love to take photos of old buildings and all the treasures of the nature.
I'm a designer for a Dutch scrapbook magazine: Creatief met Foto's.
The articles are always vintage and Schabby chic.
When I was ask to be a design team member of Let's get Shabby I didn't have to think a minute about it. This is the perfect place for me: My home is shabby, my artwork is Shabby, the little dresses for my daughter are Shabby, I dream Shabby, I love Shabby!!
I'm so happy to be on the Shabby Chic team. Can't wait to work with the other talented girls:) And see all the beautiful creations you girls are going to make with the challenges!!!!

You can see more of Chimene's work on her blog The art of a dutch Vink.

Welcome to the Shabby Chic team Chimene.

Introducing Shabby Chic Jenneke.

I live in a small town in the Netherlands with my DB Ruud. I have 3 children, Niek (25), Marije (22) and Karlijn (22). Yes, twins ;-)
About 2,5 years ago I saw a scrapbook magazine and from that moment on I have been totally addicted to this creative hobby! Photography is another passion of mine.
I don’t have one style in particular. Sometimes it’s funky with bright colors and sometimes its vintage, soft and simple.
Shabby chic?? I love it!! Especially old (music) papers, lace, layers and pastels.
And now I'm a Shabby Chic Girl! Yes!! I'm so looking forward to work with this inpiring team!

You can see more of her work on her blog Just who I am.

Welcome to the Shabby Chic team Jenneke.

Introducing Shabby Chic Julie

I'm Julie and I live in Perth Australia with my Husband Craig and Daughter Asher. I'm the one that gave Mandy the push lol . My love of this craft started with stamping and making cards which eventually lead to scrapping. Now I do a mix of both and I am totally addicted.
To me the word shabby is lots of layers, lace, ribbons, flowers, paint, distressing and lots of it. Whether it be using the soft pastel colours or my favorite the earthy tones it is a style that I love adding to my layouts and projects.
I am looking forward to being a Shabby girl and can't wait for the challenges to start.

You can check out more of Julie's projects on her blog They call me the scrapnut.
Welcome to the Shabby Chic team Julie.

Introducing Shabby Chic Mandy

What a wonderfully successful start 'Lets Get Shabby' has encountered!
Thank-you all so much!
LGS started after a push and a shove from Julie - 'Mandy just do it'!!
So we put our heads together, the idea was born - and here we are!
Our search for Scrapping Artists who will present a range of Shabby Chic styles was just as important and now we have a wonderful team who are amazing inspiration!
Between now and towards the 25th June
we will be introducing the Shabby Chic Girls one at a time!
Soooooooooo with that said..........................
I'm Mandy, live on the small island Tasmania, off South-Eastern Australia
with my ever-patient husband
in a beautiful old house by the sea
and have three gorgeous daughters, Meaghan, Hannah and Paige.

My love for scrapbooking started about ten years ago and I almost cringe at my early attempts!! I've always been drawn to flea markets, antiques and well loved furniture right through to tiny collectables. I have been a ballet dancer since I can remember and it was a natural progression that the decoration on tutus would walk across the tulle onto my layouts! I love layering and fabric, paint and more layering with lace.
I want to be able to feel the textures and see shadows they cast.

And dont forget to keep checking back to see who is next! (grin)

SHABBY'S FIRST RAK......

Wow!! We are so overwhelmed with the response over the past few days. It has taken us by surprise (very big smile) !!

A big big thanks to those who have already posted about us on their blogs and forums it really has helped to spread the word.

Would you like to get your hands on this Shabby rak Mandy has put together?
I so love that lace it is scrummy and there is about 13 inches of it. Pity I can't win it lol!

What we would like you to do is to tell us the first thing the word Shabby brings to your mind.

To me it is anything old, vintage with lots of pastel colours and lace.
Please leave your comment only in this post, just the once and by the 24th. When we post our first challenge on the 20th, we will pick a winner for the rak then.

Keep popping in as between now and the 25th we might have some more little surprises for you.
